World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item allows players to boost the gear rating of an item by up to 700 points and give it a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For example, a perfectly broken point armor that is rolled can be used in melee PvP). Other items, like weapons aren't changed much after an upgrade and aren't worth the effort.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to improve their numeric stats like crit chance, attack damage PvE and damage to PvP. Weapons come with a flat rate bonus that increases damage per second. Additionally there are many weapons with a set bonus that activates when three or more of the same weapon are present on a unit. In some instances, this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage a weapon upgrades by itself.
The cost of upgrading a weapon varies on its rarity and level. For instance the weapon with a +2 rating will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while a +3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade the gun will increase until it needs more Smithing Stones. At that point, it will reset back to one.
Upgrades to weapons will also reroll the stats of their base. While this is usually beneficial however, it could have negative consequences as well. Upgrades can make things unusable, unless you are exceptionally lucky.
The ability to upgrade armor items to increase their stats. This will increase the defense of a helm or chest as well as belts and gloves. These will increase their required strength and agility. Armor offers a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it is able to roll down to a lower value.
The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats that it will gain upon upgrading, along with the relative values of those stats. This means that an upgrade from a sword that has 8 damage to an 11 attack-damage sword will result in a weapon gaining an attack damage of 3. However the 3% difference doesn't mean that it will hit for 3 times less often, since it is an absolute statistic.
Rerolling a weapon is also possible by pressing the green button in the item menu using the arrows that circle. This will roll the item and alter its stats, but it won't reset the weapon's levels or bind to account status.
Armor
A few tweaks to your armor can make a huge differences in your ability to endure. Certain sets can offer massive increases in resistance to curses, poisons, fire, and magic. This makes it easier to traverse difficult areas. The more defense your character has, the more value you will get out of each point of health therefore it is important to improve your armor as much as possible.
To improve your armor, head to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four Great Fairy Fountains in the game and to unlock each fountain, you have to complete a side quest that involves the Stable Trotters. Once you've completed the primary side quest and completed the fountain in question, you can then speak to any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrading menu.
Each piece of armor can be upgraded to three levels and the amount of material and Rupees required to complete each level will differ. In general, you'll be looking at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and ten Rupees for the first upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Horns for each subsequent one. The Champion Leathers, for instance, can be upgraded to an increase of 5 defense rating, which will allow you to stay ahead in cold environments with a large group of enemies. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other hand, can be upgraded to +20 defense to ensure you can survive a raid with your friends.
It isn't possible to upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor for physical strength or spell power. You should also save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the story, for example the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you wear in the final boss fight The Monter Parts Merchant Mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. Generally speaking, you'll want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to win the game like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be useful to have some upgrades of the chest armor and helmets to permit you to sneak past certain monsters.
Potions
Potions are substances in bottles that, when consumed give the player a temporary status effect. There are five kinds of potions with different effects and durations. Trinkets can be upgraded once they're no longer useful, allowing a player to boost their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players and are an extremely popular alternative to gold.
In general, players should upgrade their highest priority items first. This means that the top-in slot items for each class are upgraded first before their secondary gear and finally other pieces of equipment that will not replace in the near future (such as rings or cloaks). When deciding on which items to upgrade, players should be aware of the class's preferred stats. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats to a tank player then they should consider upgrading their chest, helm and shoulders.
Once they have become useless, trinkets can be upgraded to a greater level. The new trinket comes with an additional bonus of 1. A re-upgrade, however, will destroy the trinket unless it is saved using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, however it is still cheaper than buying an entirely new trinket.
